PAIN MANAGEMENT

In 2016, CDC released a report estimating that 50 million Americans, just over 20% of adult population, have chronic pain.  About 20 million of them have a “high impact” chronic pain, pain severe enough to limit life or work activities.

Unlike acute pain, which lasts temporarily, chronic pain can last for many years.

Chronic pain can have variety of causes, such as initial injury or ongoing illness, but there may also be what seems like no clear cause.

Most common types of chronic pain are low back pain, headache / migraine, neck pain, and facial pain.

Chronic pain has a serious impact on people’s lives – more than 75% of people with chronic pain are feeling depressed; more than half feel no control over their pain; many report that pain disrupts their sleep at least few times per week.

Inflammation in the body is linked to many chronic diseases, including pain.  It’s important to get to the root cause of the pain, and not just focus on treating the symptoms.  Even though the pain may be felt in the joints or muscles, it usually starts in the Gut.

Over 70% of immune system is located in the digestive tract, and it’s there to protect against microbes, toxins, undigested larger food molecules, and other foreign invaders.  If the assault is continuous, and many of these particles escape into the blood via  “leaky gut”, the immune system will react by causing inflammation in the body and may cause pain, swelling, stiffness, and other symptoms such as fatigue, mood swings, headaches, brain fog, weight gain, eczema, anxiety, depression, digestive issues, and others.

There are various tests available to check for “leaky gut”, intestinal infections, food sensitivities, etc.

TEST, don’t guess!
